In A Beginner’s Guide to Fabric, we’ll discuss common fabric and general sewing and quilting terms in order to make you more comfortable with using fabric on your projects.
I’ve been creating and crafting with fabric, including in my scrapping and mixed media work, for over thirty years and I’ll help you unlock all the possibilities that come with using fabric on your projects.
We’ll start with the common fabric and general sewing and quilting terms and then we’ll zoom in and cover the different types of fabrics, including their basic descriptions and suggested uses. About 100 in all. I know! Who knew there were so many?
There are boatloads of fabrics out there – definitely more than just the typical canvas and burlap you often see on blogs and in galleries. Who wants to stop at typical?
We’ll then focus on the good stuff such as how to include different types of fabrics onto your projects. Besides learning basic terminology, descriptions and uses, you’ll also learn how to create awesome torn edge gathered fabric flowers and rolled fabric flowers. And you’ll learn how to add them to your projects by creating a couple cards that will show off your new found talents with style.
- The world of fabric, and all of its amazing options, will also be discussed, including:
- How to layer fabric flowers
- How to achieve different effects using various fabrics and simple twists
- How to embellish fabric flowers to make them as unique as you are.
Throughout the class, I’ll share photos and explanations so you’ll be able to see more than a 1” square of fabric on your screen and I’ll even share a sample of the first quilt segment I ever made, just to show you how everyone starts somewhere. Boy oh boy, have I improved since then...and so will you.
Just know that I’ll be here to answer your questions and lend a helping hand every step of the way and that I’ll provide an extensive digital library for you to access whenever you need to. By far, this will be the most extensive fabric information guide you’ve ever seen, all in one convenient place and accessible whenever you want it.
The class will be spread out over a weekend and includes PDFs, photos, videos and a gallery as well as an interactive Q&A session.
By the end, you’ll be able to confidently rock out fabric on your projects and expand on your use of fabric in your projects, all while making them totally special and totally you. Come get your stitching on and dive into the wonderful, colorful, textural world of fabric.
